Playing Cannibal - We were playing chase* in the fields between the backyards on Forman and the railroad tracks. We called this version of chase "cannibal" because it was like a jungle back there and we added a twist to the game of chase. That field had these bamboo like stalks growing and we would pull them out of the ground with a clump of dirt held to the stalk by the roots. The twist was that we were allowed to launch these stalks like spears or German hand-grenades at the person who was "it". Terry Agen was standing on the dirt mound that was in the middle of the field piled about six feet above the rest of the field. He was wearing his hockey helmet & mask because he had just got stitches from playing goalie without the mask; "old time hockey" - boom Rocky cracked him in the head. Standing on that mound, he took off the helmet & mask to cool off just as I was launching a bamboo stalk, dirt root and all, towards him. And "smack"; I hit him right in the head. That was the best time!
* - "chase" - progressive tag; when the person who's "it" catches someone, then they are both "it" until they catch the next person, then all three of them are "it", and so on, until they catch everyone.
